Gym Website Development Company for Independent Gyms, Studios and Boxes

Someone new in town searches "strength gym near me" at 10 p.m. and books whichever intro offer is easiest to claim. A member of a big-box gym compares your class schedule and prices with two other studios. We build gym and studio websites that turn those visits into booked intro sessions inside the gym software you already run, follow up before the lead goes cold and show which page and campaign produced each new member.

The short answer

What does a gym website development company do?

A gym website development company builds websites for independent gyms, boutique fitness studios and CrossFit-style boxes that turn local searches, ads and referrals into booked intro sessions and paying memberships. The site has to answer what a prospect checks before they walk in: what kind of training you do, who coaches it, when classes run, what it costs, what the first visit looks like, and whether real members like it.

For an independent gym that means an intro offer on every page with booking straight into Mindbody, PushPress, Wodify, Zen Planner or the software you use, a page per program and class type, a live schedule, coach pages, honest pricing or a clear "how pricing works" page, member stories with consent, and membership terms that state how renewal and cancellation work. Studios with several locations add a page per location with its own schedule and booking link.

Billion Web Studio is a gym website development company that delivers this as one fixed-scope project: gym website design, program, coach and location pages, booking and lead forms connected to your gym software, follow-up that starts within minutes, schema for each location, and GA4 and ad tracking from first click to booked intro. You own the site, domain and content from day one, separate from your software contract or any marketing group.

The market

What the numbers say about independent gyms, boutique fitness studios and CrossFit-style boxes online

More Americans belong to a gym or studio than ever, and many belong to more than one, so prospects compare. They read reviews, check schedules and prices, and now ask AI assistants which gym to try. These figures show what your website competes for.

How they choose

How members find and choose a gym

Nobody joins a gym from a homepage slider. A prospect moves from a search or an ad to reviews, the schedule and the price, then to an intro offer, and the gym wins or loses them in the first week. Here is the path, and what your site has to do at each step.

  1. 1

They search a kind of training, not a gym

"Reformer Pilates near me", "strength training for women over 50", "boxing classes [city]". The site needs a page per program and class type, so the search lands on the class they want, with the schedule and intro offer on the same page.

  2. 2

They check reviews, photos and coaches

They read your recent Google reviews, look at real photos of the floor and the classes, and check who coaches. Coach pages with certifications and specialties, and recent reviews on the site, answer "is this for someone like me?"

  3. 3

    They work out the cost

Monthly membership, class packs, drop-in rate, personal training, what the intro includes, and whether there is a contract or signup fee. If your site hides all of it, the prospect books the studio down the road that shows it.

  4. 4

    They claim the intro offer

A free class, a trial week, a paid intro pack or an on-ramp course, booked straight into your gym software without a phone call. The confirmation tells them what to bring, where to park and who will meet them, and your team follows up within minutes.

  5. 5

They decide in the first week

Owners say the hard part is turning a happy trial into a membership. The site supports it with a clear membership page, the terms in plain words, a member stories page and a simple way to sign up online when they are ready.

The problem

Why most gym websites lose new members

What we find again and again when we audit sites in this trade. None of it is about how the site looks.

Leak 01

Traffic and trials, but few memberships

Owners on r/gymowner describe the same wall: people visit, some book a trial, few become members. The intro offer is buried, the next step after the trial is unclear, nobody follows up quickly, and the site cannot tell you which campaign brought members rather than freebie hunters.

Leak 02

The website belongs to someone else

Many gyms run a site built by their gym software or by a gym marketing group that also runs the lead CRM. One owner open since 2010 wants out of both and cannot see how to leave without losing the site and the leads. If the contract ends, the site often ends with it.

Leak 03

Booking breaks the tracking

Book buttons jump to the software's own domain, so analytics and ad platforms see a click, not a booked intro, and certainly not a paid membership. You end up judging ads by cost per lead, not cost per member.

Leak 04

One page for every program

Strength, HIIT, Olympic lifting, kids, seniors, personal training and open gym share one "Programs" page. Nobody searching for "strength training for women over 50" finds it, and AI assistants cannot match you to the question.

Leak 05

Prices and terms nobody can find

"Contact us for pricing" on one side, a 12-month contract with a signup fee in the small print on the other. Prospects comparing several studios leave, and terms that are hard to read become a cancellation dispute later.

Leak 06

Stock photos and copied transformation claims

Smiling models in a gym that is not yours, "lose 20 pounds in 30 days" headlines and before-and-after photos with no context. Prospects can tell, and the FTC says a testimonial about results implies those results are typical for members.

Our research

We checked 15 real gym websites. Here is what we found.

On October 23, 2026 we opened the homepages of 15 independent gyms, boutique fitness studios and CrossFit-style boxes that rank in Google Maps in 10 US metros, the way a customer would on a phone, and ran a mobile Lighthouse test on each. Every number below comes from that check.

  • 56/100

median mobile Lighthouse performance score (90 or more is good)

  • 11.6 s

median time to show the main content on a phone (target: 2.5 seconds or less)

  • 3.2 MB

median homepage download on a phone, before anyone scrolls

  • 14 of 14 took longer than 2.5 seconds to show their main content in a mobile Lighthouse test

  • 4 of 15 show a tap-to-call link on the first phone screen

  • 7 of 15 show a clear call, book or quote button on the first screen

  • 7 of 15 have a contact or quote form on the homepage

  • 4 of 15 let visitors book or schedule online

  • 6 of 15 describe the business to Google with business schema markup

  • 7 of 15 have Google Analytics or Tag Manager installed

  • 1 of 15 use call tracking

  • 4 of 15 show a copyright year of 2024 or older (of the sites that show one)

  • 5 of 15 have images with no alt text

  • 11 of 15 link to a privacy policy

  • 7 of 15 offer live chat or texting

What this means for your gym website

The three biggest gaps in the sample. Each is fixable, and each is a reason a customer picks the next result instead of you.

See how your site compares →
  1. 1

14 of 14 took longer than 2.5 seconds to show their main content in a mobile Lighthouse test. Google counts 2.5 seconds or less as a good Largest Contentful Paint. Slow first screens lose visitors before they see your phone number.

  2. 2

Only 1 of 15 use call tracking. Calls are the main lead source in most local trades. Without call tracking you cannot see which marketing made the phone ring.

  3. 3

Only 4 of 15 show a tap-to-call link on the first phone screen. Most of these searches happen on phones. A number that is not a tap-to-call link, or sits below the fold, costs calls.

How we checked: Google Maps results for “gym” in Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta, Denver, Charlotte, Columbus, Tampa, Nashville, Kansas City, Sacramento; the two highest-ranked independent businesses per city (chains and directory listings left out). 20 homepages sampled, 15 loaded for our checker (the rest blocked automated visits), 14 scored by Lighthouse in mobile mode. Lighthouse is a lab test and varies run to run; it is not the same as Google's real-user Core Web Vitals. Businesses are not named. Checked October 23, 2026.

Generic vs built for you

Why a generic website fails independent gyms, boutique fitness studios and CrossFit-style boxes

A template is built to fit every business, so it fits yours badly. Here is what changes when the site is planned around how members actually buy.

What you need

What every gym website needs

The features that turn a gym website from a brochure into the best salesperson you have. We build all of them.

  1. Must-have · 01

An intro offer you can claim in under a minute

A free class, trial week, paid intro pack or on-ramp, booked straight into your software from every page. One offer, stated plainly, with what happens next.

  2. Must-have · 02

A page per program and class type

Strength and conditioning, group HIIT, Olympic lifting, Pilates or reformer, cycling, yoga, boxing, kids and teens, active aging, personal training, nutrition coaching and open gym, each with who it suits, a sample session and its schedule.

  3. Must-have · 03

    Live schedule and booking

Your schedule pulled from your gym software, filterable by class and location, with drop-in booking and a waitlist where your system supports it.

  4. Must-have · 04

    Coach pages

Name, photo, certifications, specialties and the classes they run. Prospects pick a coach before a gym, and AI assistants read coaches as named experts.

  5. Must-have · 05

    Pricing and membership terms

What each membership and pack includes, signup fees, minimum terms, how freezes and cancellations work and how to cancel, written beside the sign-up button rather than in a waiver.

  6. Must-have · 06

    A first visit page

What to wear and bring, where to park, how early to arrive, who meets you, how the first class is scaled for beginners and what happens after it.

  7. Must-have · 07

    Member stories with consent

Short stories and photos from real members, shared with written permission, with context on time and effort instead of guaranteed results.

  8. Must-have · 08

    Location pages that match Google

For each location: address, hours, staffed and access hours, parking, amenities, schedule and booking link, with name, address and phone identical to the Google Business Profile.

  9. Must-have · 09

    Fast follow-up built in

Every form passes the program of interest, source and SMS consent to your CRM or gym software, so your team calls or texts within minutes while the prospect is still interested.

  10. Must-have · 10

    Corporate wellness and partner pages

A page for employers, schools and teams if you sell group memberships, and the fitness benefit programs you accept, so those buyers have their own door.

  11. Must-have · 11

    Careers for coaches

An open roles page and an application form, because good coaches are as hard to find as members, and a clear page helps both.

  12. Must-have · 12

    Fast, accessible mobile pages

No autoplay video heroes or pop-ups in front of the intro offer, compressed photos and video, Core Web Vitals targets and WCAG 2.1 AA as the working standard.

Calls, bookings, leads

How we turn visitors into new members

Good gym web design is judged by booked intros and new members, not clicks. You should see each step, from first visit to paid membership, and where it came from. This is how we build that path.

  • 01One landing page per campaignEach Meta or Google campaign points to its own program or offer page with one action, never the homepage, so you can compare offers fairly.
  • 02Intro booking inside your softwareWe connect the intro offer to Mindbody, PushPress, Wodify, Zen Planner or the system you use through its widget, link or integration, and track the booked intro as a conversion where the vendor allows.
  • 03Follow-up that starts in minutesForms pass the program of interest, source and SMS consent to your CRM or gym software so automated texts and a coach call start right away, on consent you can prove.
  • 04Calls tracked by pageTap-to-call on every program and location page with call tracking, so a call from the Pilates page counts against that page and campaign.
  • 05A clear next step after the trialA membership page written for people who just finished their intro: options side by side, terms in plain words and online sign-up, so a happy trial does not end in "I'll think about it".
  • 06Referrals and challenges as editable blocksRefer-a-friend offers, challenges and seasonal events built as blocks your team can change without a developer, with each sign-up tracked.
  • 07A monthly view from click to memberIntro bookings, calls and online sign-ups by program, page and campaign in GA4, and, where your software exports it, how many intros became members.

AI search

Prospects now ask ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity which gym or studio to try, what a class costs and which place suits a beginner. BrightLocal found 45% of US consumers used AI tools for local recommendations in 2026, up from 6% a year earlier, and Pew found that when Google shows an AI summary, people click a regular result on 8% of visits against 15% without one. Assistants can only repeat what your site, Google profile and reviews state plainly.

Questions your members ask AI assistants

  • Best strength gym near me for beginners
  • Reformer Pilates studio near me with a first class deal
  • How much is a CrossFit membership in Denver?
  • Gym near me with no contract and easy cancellation
  • Boxing classes for women near me
  • Small group personal training for people over 50
  • Program facts in the first lines

Who the class is for, how long it runs, class size, the level of coaching and the intro offer, written as plain sentences an assistant can quote.

  • Prices and terms as text

Membership and pack options, contract or no contract, signup fee or none, stated on a page rather than hidden, so "no contract gym near me" can find you.

  • Coaches as named experts

Coach pages with certifications and specialties, linked from program pages and marked up with Person schema.

  • ExerciseGym schema per location

Each location marked up as an ExerciseGym with address, hours, phone and area served, and FAQ markup only where the answers are visible on the page.

  • One identity everywhere

Name, address, phone, hours and class types identical across your site, Google Business Profile, Apple Maps and Yelp, which owners note feeds Apple Maps and Siri.

  • Fresh reviews, asked the right way

Recent Google reviews shown on program and location pages, requested from every member after a milestone, with no rewards and no filtering.

Compliance and trust

The rules a gym website has to get right

A gym website sells recurring memberships, shows results and collects contact and sometimes health details. We build to these rules with you and your counsel. We do not certify compliance, and state health club laws vary.

Recurring memberships and cancellation

There is no federal click-to-cancel rule in force today: courts vacated the FTC's 2024 amendments, and in March 2026 the FTC asked for comment on whether to write a new rule. ROSCA and the FTC Act still apply to online sign-ups, and the FTC sued a national gym chain in August 2025 over hard cancellations. We put renewal and cancellation terms beside the sign-up button and state how to cancel.

State membership and renewal laws

California's automatic renewal law, as amended from July 2025, requires express consent to renewal terms and a way to cancel online if the member joined online. Minnesota requires clubs to accept cancellation by phone, in person, mail, email or a message through the club's website, in a process that is easy to complete. Other states have health club laws with their own terms; your counsel confirms yours.

Results, testimonials and transformation photos

The FTC Endorsement Guides say a testimonial about results implies they are typical, so a story showing unusual results must clearly say what members can generally expect. Its Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, in effect since 21 Oct 2024, bans fake reviews and rewards tied to positive reviews. We publish member stories only with written consent and honest context.

Review requests

Google prohibits incentives for reviews and asking only happy customers. A prize for leaving a review, a common tip in owner forums, can get reviews removed. We set up a review link sent the same way to every member.

Texting leads and members

Marketing texts sent with automated systems need prior express written consent under the TCPA rules in 47 CFR 64.1200, not as a condition of purchase, and a STOP reply ends them. Forms carry a separate, unchecked SMS consent box and pass the consent record to your systems.

Health questions and accessibility

Gyms are generally not HIPAA covered entities, but injury and health questions are sensitive, and Washington's My Health My Data Act can apply to consumer health data. We keep health questionnaires in your gym software, not in ad-tracked forms. The Justice Department says the ADA applies to business websites; we build to WCAG 2.1 AA.

We build with tools and patterns that support these rules and document what we set up. For legal advice on your own obligations, talk to your attorney.

Asked online

What independent gyms, boutique fitness studios and CrossFit-style boxes ask about websites, answered

We read what gym and studio owners ask on r/gymowner, r/FitnessStudioOwner, r/crossfit and r/localseo, and in YouTube comments under gym marketing and gym website videos. The same themes keep coming up: traffic without sign-ups, slow follow-up, software and marketing groups that own the site, chains outspending you, referrals, recurring billing and review tactics that break the rules. These are their questions, paraphrased, with our straight answers.

Where owners talkr/gymownerr/FitnessStudioOwnerr/localseor/crossfitYouTube comments on gym marketing and website videos

From r/gymowner

“We get traffic and interest, but few people sign up. What should change?”

Our answer: Owners in the thread pointed at the offer and the ask: one owner dropped the 12-month contract up front, went month to month for new members and set a clear deadline for a locked rate. On the website, put one intro offer on every page, make the next step after the trial obvious and track booked intros and sign-ups, not visits, so you can see where people drop off.

From r/gymowner

“Any marketing tactics that actually get more sign-ups?”

Our answer: Replies named challenges tied to local moments, a referral ladder, short videos of real classes and follow-up within 5 minutes of a new lead. The site's job is to capture each of those leads with the program and consent attached, and hand them to your software or CRM straight away so that fast follow-up actually happens.

From r/FitnessStudioOwner

“Our intro offer sells, and people love the classes, but few buy a package after. How do we convert trials?”

Our answer: Make the decision easy at the moment they are happiest: a membership page written for people who just finished an intro, options side by side, terms in plain words and online sign-up. Track which offer and campaign brought trials that converted, not only trials, so you stop paying for the ones that never stay.

From r/gymowner

“Asking for Google reviews is awkward for the front desk. Can we put a QR code at the exit that unlocks a prize once someone leaves a review?”

Our answer: No. Google prohibits incentives for reviews, and the FTC rule bans rewards tied to positive reviews; a prize wheel for reviewers can get reviews removed. Keep the QR code, drop the prize, and send the same review request to every member after a milestone, such as their tenth class.

From r/localseo

“We are a 4,000 square foot strength gym with big chains within 3 miles. What should we prioritize to show up locally?”

Our answer: Replies said do what the chains cannot: a complete Google profile with real photos and video, steady reviews, short videos of real sessions and a website that is up to par. We add a page per program and class type for your area, coach pages and your intro offer on each, so you compete on specialty, not budget.

From r/gymowner

“Our gym software costs too much and a marketing group runs our website and lead CRM. We want out of both. What do we need?”

Our answer: Separate the three jobs: billing and booking in the software, leads in a CRM, and a website you own. Before you leave, export your member and lead data, confirm who owns the domain and plan redirects from every old page. We build the site to connect to whichever software you move to.

From r/crossfit

“If you were starting a gym again, what would you do differently with software and the website?”

Our answer: One owner said they would pay for a proper website with SEO from day one, connect payments, and add a drop-in link and a trial or on-ramp booking. We agree with the order: a site you own first, with booking and tracking connected to whichever platform runs your gym.

From YouTube comments on a gym membership sales video

“What should we give a member for a referral who signs up? A water bottle or T-shirt feels like too little.”

Our answer: Referral rewards are legal, unlike rewards for reviews, so pick something that matches what a new member is worth to you, such as a free month or personal training session. Write the terms on a referral page: who qualifies, when the reward is paid and any limits. If a member posts about you to earn it, the FTC expects that connection to be disclosed. Give each member a code or link so the software credits referrals automatically.

From YouTube comments on a gym website tutorial

“How do we collect monthly membership payments online and send payment reminders?”

Our answer: Let your gym software run recurring billing, card on file, failed payment retries and reminders, and link the website's sign-up to it rather than building billing into a website plugin. Under the federal ROSCA law, an online sign-up with recurring charges must show the material terms before taking card details, get the member's express consent and offer a simple way to stop the charges.

From YouTube comments on a gym website tutorial

“How do I make the "try a free class" button go to the sign-up, not the contact page?”

Our answer: Point the button straight to the intro booking in your gym software, using its booking widget or a direct link with campaign tags, instead of a general contact form. Put the same button on every program page and in a sticky bar on mobile, and mark the booking confirmation as a conversion in GA4 so you can count booked intros, not clicks.

Questions are paraphrased from public posts and comments on Reddit, YouTube, forums and social media. We never quote anyone by name.

Proof, not promises

Results from websites we have built

Our proof is Blues Renewables, a local service business running the same lead system a gym needs: a page per service and area, click-to-call, and every call and form tracked as a lead event in GA4. It went from no tracked leads to 7 to 10 inquiries a week, and Google clicks rose from 14 to 560 a fortnight in two months. For a gym, its service pages become program and class pages, its area guides become location pages, and its tracked forms become booked intros. Terah Tex shows the two-step form, from no website inquiries to about 5 leads a week, that we adapt into an intro offer claim followed by booking in your software. Abraca in our portfolio is the store we would draw on for apparel and supplements, and our entertainer site with tour dates and bookings shows schedule and event pages.

Gym website questions, answered

Straight answers to what owners ask us, and what they ask Google and AI assistants. Ask us anything else.

How much does a gym website cost?

We quote one fixed price, agreed before work starts, based on pages, features, integrations and content, including your software connection and campaign pages. You get it within 1 business day with a free audit of your current site. There is no hourly billing.

Can you connect our gym software?

Yes. We work with the system you already use, such as Mindbody, PushPress, Wodify, Zen Planner or Glofox, through its widgets, links or integrations. We track booked intros and sign-ups where the vendor allows and tell you up front where it limits tracking.

Our software or marketing group already gives us a website. Why build our own?

A bundled site is convenient. What you give up is ownership, a design that looks like your gym rather than a shared template, a page per program and coach, and tracking you control. If you ever leave the contract, a site you own keeps your search visibility.

Should we put prices on our gym website?

Usually some, yes. Many prospects compare several studios, and a hidden price sends them elsewhere. If you price after a consult, a "how pricing works" page with ranges or what affects price still helps. Your call; we build either.

What should our intro offer be?

That is your business decision, and owners disagree: free class, trial week, paid intro pack or on-ramp. What the site should do is make one offer easy to claim, track which offer brings members who stay, and let you change it without a developer.

Do we need online cancellation on our website?

It depends on your state and how members join. California requires an online way to cancel for people who signed up online, and Minnesota requires clubs to accept cancellation through several channels, including the website. We state your terms and cancellation method clearly; your counsel confirms the rules for you.

Can we show member transformations?

Yes, with written consent and honest context on time, effort and what is typical. The FTC says a testimonial about results implies they are typical, so a story with unusual results needs a clear note on what members generally achieve, and we avoid guaranteed-results headlines.

How fast should we follow up with a new lead?

Owners in r/gymowner credit follow-up within minutes. We pass every lead to your CRM or gym software with the program of interest and SMS consent, so automated texts and a coach call can start right away.

We have several locations. One site or several?

Usually one site with a page per location, each with its own schedule, hours and booking link, so locations support each other in search rather than compete.

Will the new site help us beat the big chains on Google and in AI answers?

No one can guarantee rankings. What helps an independent gym is specialty: a page per program and class type, coach pages, a complete Google profile, recent reviews and schema, so Google and AI assistants can match you to specific questions the chains do not answer.

How long does a gym website take, and who owns it?

Most take 4 to 8 weeks; groups with several locations or a large program menu take 8 to 12 weeks. You get a dated week-by-week plan and weekly written updates. You own the code, design, content, domain and every account from day one, with no lock-in.

What makes you different from another gym web design company?

Many gym web design companies sell a template inside a marketing retainer, with the site and lead CRM tied to the contract. We build a site you own, connect the gym software you already run, put a page behind every program and coach, write your terms plainly and track from first click to booked intro. The terms come first in writing: a fixed quote in 1 business day, a dated plan and no lock-in.
